BREAKING NEWS: Asari Dokubo Arrested In Benin Republic: 26 November, 2013

Niger Delta activist, Mujahid Dokubo-Asariwas arrested on Tuesday.

Security officials in Benin Republic have arrested Asari Dokubo, his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, said on Tuesday evening.

According to the information provided by Mr. Keyamo in a statement, the Rivers born former armed fighter was on Tuesday"arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, around the hours of 1:00pm and 2:00pmby the country's gendarmes (Police Force)."

The wealthy former militant reportedly opened a private university in the Benin Republic, the King Amachree African University that is preparing to start degree-awarding programmes in 2014.
Keyamo stated,
"We want to emphasise that Alhaji Dokubo-Asari carries on legitimate business and has been living partly in Benin Republic for many years now"
"In fact, he owns houses, schools and an academy in that country. All these places have been searched as at this evening and nothing incriminating was found."

He suggested that Dokubo's arrest and detention may be a ploy by"certain forces in Nigeria in unholy alliance with the Beninoise government"to keep his client away as 2015 approaches.
Moreover, the lawyer added,

"We call on the Nigerian government to immediately intervene and ensure that no harm befalls Alhaji Dokubo-Asari and to use all diplomatic means to secure his immediate release and safe return to Nigeria,"

Dokubo has recently vowed that unless Mr. President Jonathan retains the presidency in 2015, Nigeria would break up.

It will be recalled that the Saturday-Sunday poll was cancelled in some areas of Anambra state due to the irregularities in terms of election conduct.

Prof. Jega also admitted that the INEC failed to perform to the expectations of Nigerians in the election.

23 candidates participated in the election.

The APGA won in 16 of the 21 local government areas; PDP won in two, APC won in two, while LP won one.

Ice Prince disclosed this during an exclusive cocktail event hosted in his honour recently at the BlackHouse Media Lounge in Ikeja, Lagos.

He stated that he only chose to collaborate with foreign artistes on his highly acclaimed second album, Fire of Zamani, simply to export Nigerian music.

"I am not trying to become an American artiste nor am I trying to blow in America. I am a Nigerian artiste that is exporting Nigerian music. Any chance that I get, I will export Nigerian music. So if that chance is getting into the studio with an international artiste, I will take that chance," he said.

With just a day left to the launch of his Fire of Zamani concert , slated for the Eko Hotel & Suites on 23 November, he said all arrangements are in top shape to deliver one of the best gigs in the year.

International artistes, Wale and Chip will join Ice Prince on stage for the first time in Nigeria at the FOZ concert.

Popular politician and Chief of Staff to Edo State governor, Patrick Obahiagbon will be the host of the event.

How President Jonathan Was Hospitalized In UK For Chronic Stomach Pain (READ DETAILS)

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter
Nigeria's President, Goodluck Jonathan, has reportedly remained hospitalized at an undisclosed London hospital to which he was taken early today after complaining of chronic stomach pain.

"The President woke up to get ready for the business of the day only to complain of serious stomach pain", one presidency source said.

The personal doctor to the President, Fortune Fibresima, reportedly administered some medicines but as the pain escalated, Mr. Jonathan was reportedly rushed to a hospital.

Presidency officials hoped he would be released to participate at an Investor's Council Meeting taking place at the Hilton Hotel in Central London, about five minutes from the InterContinental Hotel where the Nigerian president is lodged. The meeting is the objective of his visit.
Several presidency sources have confirmed to SaharaReporters that the President and several government officials partied heavily into the early hours of this morning as they celebrated Mr. Jonathan's 56th birthday.

The Nigeria leader is accompanied on the trip by several Ministers and officials, but three state governors who were invited to accompany him did not show up. They include the Governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan, who opted to go to Poland. He was reportedly afraid the London Metropolitan Police might pull him aside for questioning concerning his role in the money laundering fraud that led his cousin and predecessor as governor, James Ibori, into jail in the United Kingdom.

Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang and his Borno State counterpart, Kashim Shettima, were also both invited on the trip both they did not show up.

Last February, during another visit to London, Mr. Jonathan came down with an intestinal disorder described as Amoebic Colitis and he underwent testing at the London Clinic on Harley Street. It is unclear if his new troubles are related to that experience.

President Jonathan is said to have a taste for ogogoro, a local gin that is widely-enjoyed in the riverine areas of Southern Nigeria. Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati has however denied that alcohol is served in the presidency.

7 Ways to Keep Alcohol From Ruining Your Diet

Over the years, many of my clientshave confided that too many cocktails on the weekend, followed by alcohol-induced overeating, cancels out their work-week healthy eating efforts. And as a result, instead of seeing results, they remain "stuck" in a weight loss plateau. Sound familiar?

This trend is supported by a new UK survey, which found that in a single evening out on the town, 40% of women consume about 1,000 calories in alcohol alone. In addition, more than half say that imbibing makes them hungrier, and four in five admit that drinking diminishes their willpower, causing them to indulge in foods like burgers, pizza, and chips. If alcohol is your diet downfall, try putting these seven tips into action.

Eat before you drink

When your stomach is empty, alcohol is absorbed quickly, which means you'll feel the effects within minutes.

But eating something rich in lean protein and/or good fat, which are both digested and absorbed slowly, creates a buffer. So to curtail your tipsiness, nibble on something like a golf ball-sized portion of nuts, or fresh guacamole with veggies before you take your first sip.

Count your drinks correctly

If you count one drink as one of what you're served, you may be greatly underestimating your intake.

Technically, 12 oz of light beer (one bottle or can), 5 oz of red or white wine (a little smaller than a yogurt container), and 1 shot of liquor all pack about the same amount of alcohol, and each contains roughly 100 calories. But one study found that wine and liquor served at restaurants are about 40% larger than these standard drink portions.

Another report, out last week, found that beer and wine contain higher alcohol levelsthese days, so when you order a drink out, you may be getting 50% more alcohol than you think. In addition, if you order a pint of beer (16 oz), you'll get four extra ounces than one standard drink, and then there are mixed drinks that contain more than one shot (like those illustrious Long Island Iced Teas!). The lesson: if you underestimate your intake, you may be far tipsier than you think. That means not only more alcohol calories than you counted on, but also a loosier goosier state of mind than may seriously affect your appetite.

Slim down your drink order

If you're a beer drinker, the type you order can have a big impact on your nutritional bottom line. A bottle or can of ultra low carb beer contains about 3-4 grams of carbs. But a regular version packs at least 10 grams, about as much as 10 mini pretzels.

That means three a week adds up to an extra 1,560 grams of carb per year, the equivalent of nearly five loaves of bread. Drinks made with mixers are even bigger carb and calorie traps. Just four ounces (a half cup), of a sweetened mixer will cost you a whopping 25 grams of carb (about 14 gummy bears worth), and decadent drinks like a mudslide can contain over 500 calories, more than the amount a slice of chocolate cake.

Slow your pace

One of the biggest culprits in alcohol-driven overeating is getting too tipsy, too fast. To slow down the rise in your blood alcohol level, order a tall glass of water with every alcoholic drink.

Alternate sips, and be sure to finish at least 12 ounces of H2O for every cocktail. This simple strategy may cut your total consumption in half

Prevent mindless munching

If you're at a bar with free happy hour apps, or one that serves up goodies, like popcorn or nuts, turn your back on the free fare, or place them out of arm's reach. Research shows you'll mindlessly munch if food is right in front of you, without even realizing it, and even if you aren't hungry. But if it's out of sight, you're much less likely to seek it out

Pre-plan your post-drink meal

Alcohol can indeed act as an appetite stimulant. And we all know it lowers inhibitions. So if you don't want to give in to eating things you wouldn't touch if you were sober, create a pre-drinking strategy. Stash something in your bag, like an all natural energy bar, so you won't grab a greasy slice of pizza. Or scope out restaurants nearby where you're going out, so if your friends want to grab a bite, you can suggest a spot where you know you can order a healthier option.

Finally, strategically place some light snacks within sight at home, like pre-popped organic popcorn on the countertop, or cut fruit and fresh veggies and hummus front and center in the fridge. If you get a case of the munchies before bed, you're much more likely to grab what's readily available, rather than digging for something like chips or cookies.

Volunteer to be the designated driver

The best way to prevent alcohol from derailing your diet is to avoid drinking altogether. One tactic is to save your group taxi or ride-sharing costs by offering to drive (stick with naturally calorie-free club sodas with lime all night). While it may not be as fun as indulging with your group, you're the one who'll wake up the next day without a food or alcohol hangover, and that feels pretty darn good.

What's your take on this topic? Does alcohol get in your way of eating healthfully and managing your weight?

10 Flat-Belly Tricks

* Pros share their top sleek-stomach tips
By Shaun A. Chavis

Don't even think about sucking it in so you'll fit into those cute fitted white jeans: There are less-painful and longer-lasting ways to get the amazing middle you crave. We went straight to experts to get their very best advice for quickly shrinking your tummy. Here are the surprising foods, tricks, and moves they swear by. Their genius tips will help you shed inches and pounds, banish the bloat, and feel even more gorgeous. Hello, skinny jeans!

* Eat at this magic hour

"You must eat a snack that contains protein between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Go for a protein bar, a piece of low-fat cheese, or some almonds with an organic apple.

No matter what, do not miss that snack. It's important because it boosts metabolism and balances blood sugar. The lower you keep your blood sugar, the lower you keep your insulin, and insulin makes you store fat around your middle. Eating every three to four hours will keep your blood sugar even, but many people tend to go five or six hours between lunch and dinner without eating."

—Natasha Turner, naturopathic doctor, author ofThe Hormone Diet

* Have a ball

"My No. 1 tip: Do the ball exchange three times a week. Lay flat on your back with your arms above your head and legs straight out. Start with a stability ball above your head in your hands. Bring the ball up above your chest as you bring your legs up to meet the ball and place it between your ankles. Bring the ball back down to the floor with your legs and straighten your arms back out over your head.

Repeat the ball exchange 10 to 12 times, remembering to keep your lower back pressed into the floor as you do this move."

—LaReine Chabut, author ofExercise Balls for Dummies

* Beef up on this belly-zapping hormone

"Eat as close to zero grams of sugar as possible. This will keep insulin levels low and also keep levels of glucagon high. Glucagon, a hormone, is the best friend you could ever have in the struggle for a flat belly! Picture Ms. Pac-Man traveling around your waistline, gobbling up fat to be used as energy. That is glucagon.
The closer to zero grams of sugar you consume, the lower your insulin and the higher your glucagon...it's as simple as that."

—Jorge Cruise, author ofThe Belly Fat Cure

* Chew on this

"Chewing is the No. 1 tip I give to prevent bloating. Chew food until it is like applesauce in your mouth. Digestion begins in the mouth, and without proper chewing, food is not well-digested. Better-digested food means less gas and bloating."

—Dawn Jackson Blatner, RD, author ofThe Flexitarian Diet

* Put crunches last on your flat-belly list (for real!)

"I recommend the DCBA approach: Diet first, Cardio second, Building muscle third, and Abs exercises last. Follow it and you can safely lose one to two pounds a week. Spend 60 minutes a day preparing healthier meals. Spend 20 minutes a day three to five times weekly doing cardio.

Spend 15 minutes a day three times a week strength training. Finally, spend 5 minutes a day three times a week doing abs exercises."

—Myatt Murphy, author ofThe Body You Want in the Time You Have

* Shake on the sea salt

"The culprit making your tummy bloat? It could be the salt in your diet. Use natural sea salt or kosher salt, which is lower in sodium teaspoon for teaspoon than traditional table salts. And stay away from soy sauce: Even low-sodium soy sauce is still high in sodium and will cause practically instant bloating.

Instead, flavor your food with a little fresh tomato salsa or a hint of cayenne pepper, which has an added benefit of boosting metabolism."

—Susan Irby, "The Bikini Chef" and author ofSubstitute Yourself Skinny

* Punch it out and lose 2 inches fast

"Add boxing to your cardio routine. When you throw punches with weights or at a fast pace, you're working your core in a way that helps to flatten your midsection. You must engage your core to throw punches, and twisting your torso works all the ab muscles.

Boxing also gives you a cardio workout that burns extra calories. Add 16 minutes of boxing three times a week to your regular cardio routine (30 minutes at high intensity four to five times a week), and you can lose up to 2 inches from your waist in four weeks. Simply throw punches while holding 1- or 2-pound weights for 8 minutes, alternating arms, then repeat without weights at a faster pace for 8 more minutes."

—Michael Olajide Jr. and Leila Fazel, co-founders of Aerospace High Performance Center in New York City

* Try the flat-belly cheat

"Play up a different body part to draw attention from your middle.

If it's your legs, wear skirts or slim pants. Shoulders—bare them even if just a bit with a boatneck or sweetheart neckline. Cleavage? Make sure your bra does its job. If your bra rides up in the back, the bra has likely stretched out. If it accentuates back flab or if the space between the cups doesn't lie flat, go up a size."

—Kim Johnson Gross, style expert and author ofWhat to Wear for the Rest of Your Life

* Size matters

"Eating portion-controlled meals that include whole-grain foods and monounsaturated fats (MUFAs) throughout the day is the best way to eat for a flat belly: People who eat whole grains lose more abdominal fat.
And making most of the fats you eat MUFAs reduces ab flab, research says." —Keri Glassman, RD, author ofThe O2 DietandThe Snack Factor Diet

* The ultimate flat-belly menu

Best breakfast:A slice of whole-wheat bread with natural peanut butter and 1 cup of your favorite berries.
Best lunch:Spinach salad with sliced avocado, grilled firm tofu, and cherry tomatoes, drizzled with a little olive oil and fresh lemon juice.

Best dinner:Grilled salmon, a roasted sweet potato, and sautéed asparagus with olive oil and garlic.
Best snack:A cup of fat-free yogurt with 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds.

Laugh it up!

"The best thing for your abs is laughing. Every time you laugh it strengthens your abs. There are even laughing yoga classes (Go to Laughter Yogato find a class near you). If you start busting a gust, you are absolutely toning your abs."
—Kristin McGee, Pilates expert

9 Foods to Avoid When Your Tummy Hurts

How to settle your stomach
By Amanda Gardner

If you're in pain or have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or other symptoms, you'd do anything to feel better.

Luckily most stomach bugs are short-lived. However, choosing the wrong kind of food when your appetite starts to perk up again may prolong the misery.

Here are 9 foods you should avoid while recovering from an upset stomach.

Refined sugar

Supersweet foods, such as those containing refined sugar can lead to spikes in insulin levels which, in turn, can lead to fluctuations in blood sugar.

Although this might not directly affect your stomach, it could make you feel clammy and shaky, which isn't going to improve your overall state, says Robynne Chutkan, MD, assistant professor in the division of gastroenterology at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC

Dairy

Dairy products such as milk and cheese top the list of "don't" foods when it comes to upset stomachs. For one thing, more than half the world's population is already lactose intolerant, meaning they lack the necessary enzyme to digest dairy products.

But even if you're not lactose intolerant, a viral or bacterial infection can affect lactase (the lactose-digesting enzyme) and could cause you to temporarily or even permanently lose your ability to digest lactose, says Dr. Chutkan.

Soda

Although many people attribute soda's aggravating qualities to the carbonation, you can really blame citric acid and the preservative sodium benzoate, says Dr. Chutkan.

"The chemicals can be hard on the stomach," she says. But the carbonation can also bother some people.

"It can give you a full feeling and if you have an upset stomach and you're burping a lot and feeling full, that can be a problem," she explains.

Chocolate and caffeine

One of the main reasons caffeine and chocolate (which may contain caffeine) are irritating to an already-upset tummy is that, like peppermint tea, they relax the lower esophageal sphincter, which allows acid reflux.

Caffeine can also loosen stools, which isn't good if you already have diarrhea. And chocolate that contains milk products or nuts could be difficult to digest for those who are lactose-intolerant or allergic.

Fatty foods

Cream, meats, soft cheese: All of these foods are high in fat and won't help if you're feeling sick to your stomach.

That's because fatty foods activate chemical receptors in the stomach in such a way as to slow down emptying of the stomach, making you feel bloated, explains Dr. Chutkan.

Other high-fat foods such as nuts will make you feel full. That may be good if you're trying to lose weight, but not so great if you're feeling awful.

Foods high in acid

Citrus fruits along with tomato-based products (tomato is technically a fruit and contains a lot of acid) have the potential to cause acid reflux, Dr. Chutkan says.

This applies to citrusy fruit juices as well. So while apple juice would probably be fine, orange juice isn't the best choice.
Other fruits tend to be fine, she adds.

Spices

Spices and spicy food may not be as bad as you think. "If you're used to eating spicy food, you probably have a very good tolerance for it and it will be fine," says Dr. Chutkan.

If you're not used to these foods, this may not be the time to start. But also pay attention to how—and with what—the spices are cooked. "Spices are associated with cooking in oil, so fat is probably more a reason [for upset stomach] than the spice itself," says Amit Bhan, MD, service chief of gastroenterology at Henry Ford Health System, in West Bloomfield, Mich.

Processed foods

Not unlike sodas, processed foods with a long-shelf life typically have a lot of chemicals, including preservatives, which could further upset your tummy.

So while a can of spaghetti might look attractive because it's sitting right there in your pantry, you may want to leave it alone for now. (The tomato sauce would probably be bad for your stomach anyway.)

Pele: Zidane was better than Messi

The Brazil legend believes the Real Madrid assistant coach was superior individually than the Argentine during his playing days
By Alec Fenn

Nov 21, 2013
Pele says Zinedine Zidane was a better player than Lionel Messi when he was at his peak but revealed he would vote for the Barcelona star ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Ballon d'Or.

Zidane lifted the World Cup and European Championship with France during his playing days as well as the Champions League and then the Ballon d'Or with Real Madrid.

Messi has been widely-heralded as arguably the greatest player of all-time having won the Ballon d'Or a record four times, but Brazil legend Pele does not share that same point of view.

He told reporters: "Individually, I think Zidane was better than Messi. Zidane was amazing and the team-mates he played with were not the same standard as Messi's; he plays with Xavi and Iniesta at Barcelona."

The Argentina international is again expected to be among the frontrunners to lift the game's most prestigious individual prize, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Franck Ribery his closest rivals for the crown.

And Pele admitted he would vote for Messi ahead of the aforementioned duo, while fellowSelecaolegend Rivelino rubbished comparisons between the forward andAlbicelestegreat Diego Maradona.
"I would vote for Messi because of his technique," Pele added.

Rivelino stated: "In my opinion, Neymar is technically better than Messi. There's no way you can compare Messi to Maradona. He fitted perfectly into a team where everything worked. This year another player will win."

Ronaldo: Ballon d'Or not priority

The Portugal international is strongly fancied to lift the award in light of his recent form and the extension of the prize's voting deadline - but says it is not his main priority
By Alec Fenn
Nov 22, 2013

Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted the prospect of winning a second Ballon d'Or is not at the forefront of his mind on the back of another extraordinary week for the Real Madridstar.

The 28-year-old scored his fifth hat-trick of the season on Tuesday as Portugal beat Sweden 3-2 (4-2 on aggregate) to clinch their place at World Cup 2014.

Ronaldo scored the only goal in the first-leg of that tie and continued his sensational start to the campaign, which has seen him become a favourite with many to pip Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery to the individual prize.

He toldCadena Cope: "I'm not thinking much about the Ballon d'Or. I still don't know if I will go (to the award ceremony) or not - things don't depend on just me. I'm not obsessed over it."

A child present at the interview then pressed the forward on whether he believed he would be handed the famous trophy at the ceremony in Zurich in January, to which he replied: "If I do, I'll invite you to the party."

The former Manchester United player lifted the award in 2008 after winning the Champions League with the Old Trafford club.

And with the deadline for votes to be made for the Ballon d'Or extended to November 29, Ronaldo's impressive form could well see him sway voters and be named the world's best player for a second time.

Your Online Dating Profile: The Dos, The Don'ts, The Musts

By Lesley Dormen

Should you mention your snoring, your dexterity with the flute, your knobby knees? Lesley Dormen tells us how she got the guy.

Twelve years ago, I took a chance and wrote a personal ad. Meet men without leaving the house! What could be bad? I wrote my ad thoughtfully. I considered every word.

My finished product reflected my attitude at the time—a combination of "you have to play to win" and "hey, why not?" I ended up meeting my husband. Did I get lucky? Sure. But I had prepared the way.

Here's what I've learned about writing a good ad:

1. Before you start writing, put on lipsick. Or a cowboy hat. Or your coolest T-shirt and stilettos. Play your favorite CD. Props that make you feel soulful, frisky, and fascinating help you make those claims for yourself in your ad.

2. It might sound obvious, but be sure to post a terrific photo of yourself. If he likes the photo, he'll read the ad.

3. If you're not comfortable putting your picture up online, avoid overselling your appearance with dubious claims like "Sharon Stone look-alike." I started my magazine personal with: "Curvy, almond-eyed writer, fit (good shoulders)...." My husband says he was attracted to the soft sell of the description and the quirky confidence of the assertion. More to the point: I wanted to attract a man who appreciated subtlety.

4. Show your personality, don't tell it.

Create a persona and your profile stands out. Instead of saying you're funny or well educated or caring, demonstrate that. What are your interests? Paintings? Which ones? Your garden? Why? Try an ad that consists entirely of your favorite movie dialogue or a list of beloved fictional characters. Your essence shines through the details. Be specific. Be surprising. A woman I know snagged a boyfriend when she described her ideal job as a combination of circus performer and archaeologist.

5. Seriously avoid personal-ad speak. Don't "like fine dining" when you can be passionate about Memphis barbecue, don't "enjoy movies" when you can declare your enthusiasm for Mel Brooks.

6. Include the basics: your age and occupation, whether or not you have children, whether you're looking for a date or a life partner.

7. Don't lie about your age—or
anything else. If you're 42 but look 32, say so (or let your picture do the talking). "Mid-30s" or "early 40s" is fine, but assume he'll round up.

8. Unless you know for sure that you only want to meet, say, a nonsmoking Portuguese-speaking dentist, go easy on the list of qualities he must have.

My ad requested a man "financially stable, kinda handsome, who can slow dance, make me laugh, read between the lines." Cast a wide net and edit out the responses. You never know.

9. It's love, not brain surgery. You can do it over. You can do it again.

How to Find Your Emotional BalanceWe all seek emotional balance, but what exactly does that mean?

By Liz Brody

There's no 98.6° of the mind, no 130 over 85 for mood pressure. And, although the popularity of drugs like Prozac and Zoloftmight lead us to believe that brain neurotransmitters can be mixed like a smart martini (one jigger of serotonin, two of dopamine...), so far no one has come up with a cocktail for happiness. Most of us know, however, what it feels like to be emotionally out of whack.

Patience rubbed bald, making the slightest irritation unbearable. No energy to care about anyone else's difficulties. A shuttered outlook, leaving you increasingly closed to both pleasure and possibility.

Now is the time to attend to your inner fitness, says LLuminari, O 's team of 15 doctors and wellness expertswho are coaching us toward greater health. It doesn't take decoding the genome to prove that when you're feeling good about yourself, your body stays in better shape and your general condition is more resilient. "The people who age best are those who have positive things happening in their lives and positive feelings," says Norman Rosenthal, MD, a clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine and the author of The Emotional Revolution, which details the latest science of emotions and argues that they profoundly affect your health and survival.

Forty to 55 percent of a happy disposition is genetic, studies suggest, but the rest can be learned.

It may be helpful to think of emotional balance as mastering a surfboard—honing the ability to take life's gnarliest waves without wiping out, while catching the good ones and riding them all the way to shore, enjoying every last splash. What it takes to stay on the board will vary for each of us. Outwardly, life delivers different ups and downs; inwardly, there are many styles of maintaining equilibrium.

To dive in, the LLuminari experts suggest first giving yourself an emotional checkup, then practicing a few basic mood-stabilizing techniques, and finally determining, if appropriate, when it's time to get help. "Some days are tougher than others," says surgeon Nancy Snyderman, MD, the author of Dr. Nancy Snyderman's Guide to Good Health, "but if you generally love waking up in the morning, you're in a good spot. If you're not, challenge what's amiss and see how you can fix it."

Step 1: Emotional Checkup

Sit down with a calendar and ask yourself how you've been feeling over the past couple of weeks—depressed, anxious, joyful, angry? Do you seem uncharacteristically blue and lethargic? If yes, can you see a good reason for it? The questions may seem obvious, but if you don't ask them, Rosenthal says, "it's easy to shove the problem out of your mind."

Next check your expectations. The big mistake people make is confusing emotional balance with happiness, says Alice Domar, PhD, director of the Mind/Body Center for Women's Health at Boston IVF and the author of Self-Nurture. "The huge number of people on Prozac in this country includes many, I think, who were experiencing life's ups and downs normally but had an expectation of constant happiness," she says. "A normal life means feeling pretty satisfied with the way things are, having some moments of joy and some moments of sadness and anxiety."

Manchester City target €12m wonderkid Zouma

Club officials have earmarked the 19-year-old Frenchman as an ideal solution to Manuel Pellegrini's defensive problems and are confident of securing a deal for him in January

By Paul Clennam

Manchester City are considering a move for 19-year-old St. Etienne sensation Kurt Zouma,Goalunderstands.

Chief executive Ferran Soriano and Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain are big fans of the France Under-21 star and have earmarked him as an ideal solution to bolstering City's depleted defensive line-up.

City are hopeful that they could secure him for around £10 million after having conducted initial talks with the French club.

The Etihad Stadium outfit have also made informal enquiries over Porto pair Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi but have found the Portuguese outfit reluctant to sell two of their most high-profile assets.

Zouma, who is currently banned until February after breaking Sochaux midfielder Thomas Guerbert's leg earlier this month, has been watched closely by City's chief scout Gary Worthington and is seen as a cheaper alternative.

Chelsea are also known to be interested in the youngster but City, who have been hit by injuries to Vincent Kompany, Matija Nastasic, Micah Richards and new boy Martin Demichelis so far this term, are desperate to increase their strength-in-depth at the back.

Manuel Pellegrini has not been put off by the 19-year-old's 10-game ban and is working closely with both Soriano and Begiristain ahead of the January transfer window.

Zouma made his professional debut for St. Etienne at the age of 16 and has since played over 50 games for the Ligue 1 club, attracting interest from a host of top European clubs in the process.

Vice Chancellors Call For Fundamental Reforms To Stabilize Higher Education System

Against a backdrop of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU) strike, the Association of Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (ACVCNU) has called to take measures against disruptions in the academic calendars of universities.

In a communiqué issued on Tuesday at the end of the 28th Annual Conference of the Association in Abuja, the vice-chancellors noted that the disruptions emanated from student and staff union issues.

ACVCNU stressed the need for broad and well thought out reforms that would make the higher education system in Nigeria more stable in terms of quality, effectiveness and relevance to national values.

It also warned that the proliferation of universities without corresponding increase in funding would pose challenges to the new public universities.

It further acknowledged that universities did not operate under the same circumstances having been established by various entities.

The Association added that inadequate funding by university proprietors was a major cause of decline in quality of education and low global ranking of Nigerian universities.

The associated noted that teaching/learning and research took place in resource-poor contexts, what made it nearly impossible for Nigerian universities to measure up in an increasingly competitive global knowledge economy.

The association said universities,
therefore, needed to seek innovative sources of financing outside the government and private proprietors' funding, such as student loans and scholarships as well as private sector contributions.

Furthermore, it stated that there was a need for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education at all tiers of the Nigerian education system to make room for the development of intellectual capability, creativity, and innovation.

The Association announces it would continue further examination of all these issues at a national education conference, which AVCNU planned to convoke with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) for all stakeholders in education next year.
The Vice Chancellors condoled with the ASUU and the family of Festus Iyayi, who died in an auto crash on November 12.

It also condoled with the family ofYahaya Mahmood,Pro-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, who died on November 15.

How Jonathan Will Lose In 2015By Bayo Olupohunda

With no known accomplishment in public service, President Goodluck Jonathan rode to the Presidency in 2011 on a wave of undefined hope with the assistance of an unsuspecting media, and a gullible electorate.

To his supporters, Jonathan was a bolt of lightning that would unite Nigeria, restore prosperity, and bring "a breath of fresh air" to the polluted politics of Abuja, and Nigeria in general. His detractors, on the other hand, saw a recluse with a murky past and little evidence to warrant the adulation heaped on him. Who was right? As his first term drags on painfully, it has become clear that Nigerians who supported and voted for him had invested their hope in a phantom. Under Jonathan's leadership, the economy has, forget the chest-thumping rhetoric of the finance minister, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, been a mess and this country has never been more divided.

It has now turned out that electing one based on little other than the sentimental rhetoric of a deprived childhood may not have been such a good idea after all. To say that Jonathan was a phenomenon in 2011 will not be an exaggeration. He ran a huge campaign and broke records in vote totals. But it will be impossible for him to match those levels of excitement in 2015.

Usually, in a presidential election, the odds of getting re-elected have always favoured the incumbent. But in a depressed economy like ours, or when the public perceives the incumbent as feckless in spending, dithering or simply not up to the task, this conventional wisdom will not matter. And that is the case with President Jonathan. Several factors, when taken together, make it almost impossible for him to win a re-election in 2015.

President Jonathan cannot win. This President has several key flaws which have already blighted his Presidency.

His most telling undoing, of course, has been the fact that he has not been much of a party leader with his party now crumbling under his watch.

To begin with, the mist has cleared and millions of Nigerians (except for sycophants) have seen with their own eyes that "the breath of fresh air'' was just more of the same old political rhetoric. In 2015, Jonathan's campaign will not have the historical significance it did in 2011.

Second, which is the reason for this piece is how the demographics that saw him elected President will work against him in 2015. The President has alienated just too many Nigerians, including large numbers from his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party. In 2015, many will vote against him or simply just stay home-that's for want of a credible and well-accepted candidate from the opposition.

President Jonathan is a self-created myth. There is little substance behind the façade other than the deceptive style of politics that has long defined Nigerian politicians.

In 2011, his campaign avoided specifics; his speeches contained no substance. His greatest asset was his "unknownness." As a blank slate, Nigerians imagined whatever they wanted in the next president. They were aided by a campaign which played up the sentiments of his deprived childhood. It was a deceptive farce cleverly scripted to mirror the lives of ordinary Nigerians who immediately connected with someone they thought was one of their own.

How wrong have they been? He was
thought to be an outsider who would clean up Abuja. Any PDP presidential candidate who gained the nomination in 2011 was likely ensured the presidency. Having said that, Jonathan will lose the next election because his greatest asset, his "unknownness", no longer exists.

The imagination of Nigerians can no longer be manipulated in the presence of facts. Simply put, Jonathan will not be re-elected because ordinary Nigerians can now see him for who he is. What people are getting now is nothing like what they were promised or imagined.

What was a blank slate upon which to imagine a Jonathan presidency now is a full-blown portrait filled with disappointment and more of the same. Gradually, it is appearing a great mistake was made in 2011.

That mistake is now apparent to most Nigerians. Even his South-South home base and party stalwarts in the PDP establishment recognise his failings, although neither is willing to publicly discuss them. It is hoped that the PDP will have the courage to look elsewhere in their next convention.

Although that is unthinkable, they can only hope that this election does not destroy what remains of the party.

The cracks are already visible. Based on the debacle presently rocking his party, that fear is not unfounded.

The most compelling image of Jonathan is the one showing him ducking all of the tough issues that have come his way. For him, the buck stopped with a plethora of committees and with Okonjo-Iweala.

But her Bretton Wood prescriptions have worsened the economy with unemployment figures reaching a record high.

Why and how Jonathan will lose this next election is less difficult to understand than how he won the first time. Certainly, the demographics will be less favourable this time unless something dramatic happens during the polls. In 2011, the President won in almost all the zones of the federation. In 2015, he will not have such a luxury. Take the South-West zone for example. The zone was a battleground which contributed immensely to his first term victory. In 2015, it will present a test case for Jonathan.

For one, the influence of his party has waned in the zone. In many of the South-West states, for example, the PDP has become too fractious and weakened. The emergence of the All Progressives Congress, with Maj-Gen.

Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and Bola Tinubu hoping to consolidate on a renewed alliance will make the South-West a no-win for the President. If the alliance between the APC (Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani) work, Jonathan's second term is best forgotten. If the opposition presents a credible candidate, perhaps, it will be the first time an incumbent will be defeated.

The South-West and the North are key battleground zones. The crisis rocking the fractious PDP fuelled by his controversial chairman, Bamanga Tukur, may yet turn out to be his Achilles' heels.

The politics of the Nigeria Governors' Forum also offers a glimpse into how Jonathan will not be re-elected. Governor Chibuike Amaechi won 19 out of 35 votes in the NGF chairmanship election, while Governor Jonah Jang got 16 votes with the Yobe State Governor abstaining.

Many of the governors who voted for Amaechi have sympathy for the APC. Seven of the nine PDP governors that supported Amaechi are now in the "New PDP" with a chance of defecting to the APC anytime: Sokoto, Kano, Jigawa, Adamawa, Rivers, Kwara and Niger (also called the G7 governors).

Kebbi and Gombe are still in the Jonathan camp of the "Old PDP" but their next move is almost predictable. Note that Sokoto, Kano, Jigawa, Niger, Kebbi and Gombe all voted for Buhari in 2011. The South-East zone, which also has a valid claim to the presidency, will intensify its quest in 2015. It may likely pitch its tent with the party that offers the best chance to actualise this dream. Will Jonathan be a one-term president? It is very likely.

ASUU Strike: AAUA Is NOT Resuming on Monday

The chairman of ASUU chapter at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), in Ondo State, Dr. Busuyi Mekusi, insisted that his members were still part of the ongoing national strike, and debunked the reports about resuming lectures.

Dr. Mekusi stressed that the University Chapter of ASUU was in support of the action of its national body, signed the appropriate statemet on November 21, 2013, Thursday:

"We, the executives of ASUU, AAUA chapter, wish to dissociate ourselves from the purported resumption of academic activities in the university, as its members are still part of the ongoing national strike by the Union.

"Members should therefore, disregard any pullout to abandon the struggle, and be steadfast until the present position is reviewed by NEC. The Union also wants to make it abundantly clear that it would resist every tyrannical propensity to intimidate and harass its members".

It would be recalled that in a statement issued and signed by its Registrar, R.B Olotu, the school had ordered its students to resume for the second semesteron November 25th, 2013, thereby boycotting the nationwide strike.

PHOTO: Man Finds $100,000 Worth Of Cash In The River

You remember how your parents told you money doesn't grow on trees?

Turns out they were looking in the wrong direction: up, not down.
A man walking his dog in the United Kingdom last month stumbled across an interesting find in the Spalding River: soggy wads of cash floating near a drain.

The total haul was about 60,000 pounds, roughly the equivalent of $100,000.

"Police are intending to consult with the Bank of England for assistance with a formal inspection of the money and a final accurate count,"local police said in a statement.

"It isn't every day that an amount of money like this is found, and somebody must have information that will help the police trace the lawful owner,"said Steve Hull of the Spalding Criminal Investigations Department.

"I would be grateful to hear from people who have genuine information to pass on to me."And by "genuine information," he means something more than"I can identify that money; it's got a picture of the queen on it."

You just know that this is the final scene in some epic crime drama that we don't yet know. Of course, if the man had decided to keep the cash for himself, that could have some significant drawbacks as well.

So, yes, money is problematic, and finding soggy handfuls of it could absolutely wreck your life if you make the wrong decision. Still, it'd be nice to have that option, wouldn't it?

Weird Sea-Monster Corpse Found In Vietnam (PHOTOS+VIDEO)

A mysterious Loch-Ness-style monster has been found on the shores of Vietnam with the world now wondering what it is and where it has been dwelling.

Unidentified: It is believed the creature came from the sea
In video footage, the carcass of the enormous creature from the deep is seen being raised onto a large truck in front of hundreds of baffled onlookers.

The video emerged from a Chinese news source earlier this week with little information to explain the
surfaced giant behemoth.

In a global online investigation, posters and forum users have jumped to their own conclusions about the strange finding.

Some say it could be a relative of the infamous Loch Ness monster.

Others have gone down the alien route and presumed it to be a large creature from outer space similar to that in the 1990 film Tremors. But it seems the most common belief is that it is a large… beached whale.
In Vietnam, fishermen on the coasts are known to worship whales as the animals are meant to bring luck and safety to them and their families.

During the Cau Ngu funeral festival, for instance, the Vietnamese will sing and dance while dragging a whale corpse to a nearby whale temple to bury the bones in the cemetery.

Monster: The creature was found on the shores of Vietnam
Creature: Vietnamese onlooker stare in amazement at the beast
In 2010, it was reported a 15-ton dead whale known as "Your Excellency" was given a royal send-off.
More than 30 people on 10 boats brought the whale ashore as it floated lifeless in the Cai Cung River.
As many as 10,000 people then attended the funeral to honour the sacred animal.
